Q&A: Is the erotic nature of pole dancing implied because of the shape of the pole?

Question by Taro Y: Is the erotic nature of pole dancing implied due to the fact of the shape of the pole?
I was just asking yourself whether the shape of the pole had something to do with it. Considering that, if you use your imagination, I suppose you could make the argument that the shape of the stripper pole is roughly like a extremely big penis. So when females dance on it, they rub against it and hang off it and stuff like that. Is the implication that they're playing with a massive penis, and that is why it is erotic? Or does the eroticism come from someplace else fully?

Clearly you happen to be referring to pole dancing in the context of stripping, not fitness :) In a fitness context, the pole is just an apparatus, rather like the uneven parallel bars are to a gymnast.

If we look at pole dancing in the context of a strip club, I suspect the erotic nature of pole dancing has far more to do with the fact that clothes are coming off than the shape of the pole (although Freud may have a distinct opinion).

Consider the fact that strippers often use other props (such as chairs, for example) in their performances that bear no resemblance whatsoever to a penis, and that these performances can be each bit as erotic as pole dancing.

I think that eroticism is aroused when a woman owns her feminine power and knows how to display it with her body. If she also occurs to be in a position to do so on a dance pole, nicely that's just one much more tool in her toolkit. But in my view the pole is not what makes the woman or the performance erotic.

There are strippers with wonderful bodies who are boring as heck since they don't know how to move, they do not know how to connect with their audience, and they naturally are not into what they're undertaking. It would not matter what type of prop these ladies utilized, they couldn't put on an erotic show if their life depended on it.

On the other hand, a pole dance performer who is not necessarily a stripper, can put on an incredibly erotic show with no taking off a stitch of clothing or doing any moves that may be regarded as vulgar, just by owning her physique and honoring how it was meant to move.

Just this girl's opinion.
