Do alternators just go out or do they slowly loose charge? cuz mines......?

Question by Sam O: Do alternators just go out or do they slowly loose charge? cuz mines......?
I have 95 Toyota Tercel and a couple of months ago the alternator suddenly quit working, so i went to a salvage yard and got a alternator off a Toyota Passeo and put that on( i couldnt get the wire plug out of either of the alternators so i just cut the three tiny wires and connected the passeo alternator to my automobile with butt connectors.
My automobile ran fine for a couple of weeks but then i was driving property from operate at night and had the heater fan and headlights on and the battery indicator light came on on the dash, so i turned off my headlights and the battery indicator light went off.
The next day i took off the output wire on the alternator and cleaned the connections and then put it back on and the auto ran best and i had charge with all the electrical stuff on. But yesterday it started carrying out the precise same factor again. It will only charge if i have almost everything off except the motor of course. So do you think its yet another burnt up alternator or one thing else? thanks

Assuming there is not a poor connection (it would get hot with all the accessories on and the engine operating, so it should be effortless to locate under those conditions), it's doable that one diode has gone defective. That may possibly reduce the output enough to be unable to support something a lot more than the ignition and modest amount of charging.
