I just got Tivo and the directions say it wants to be plugged into a phone line for "updates". Is it actually that important to plug it into a phone line? None of my TV's are anyplace near the phone jack so it would be a massive pain in the butt. Will it nonetheless work if it is not plugged into the phone line I realize I won't get any updates? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

yes it does download updates off the internet like a dial up modem if it cant the guide will not work properly
